Continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic(CFRTP) tapes are based on continuous fiber and thermoplastic resin as reinforced material and matrix respectively. It can manufacture high-strength, high-rigidity, high-toughness composite material through special processes. As the high strength of continuous fiber, CFRTP material has excellent mechanical properties, which is widely used in various fields such as aerospace, train, automobile, shipbuilding, container, architectural ornament, pipeline, safety, Sports & Leisure, war industry etc. and more new products have been developed.

The difficulty in developing glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics is how to combine thermoplastics with glass fiber. Glass fiber is a brittle silicate material, glass fiber surface is rough multi notch, easy to produce micro cracks. The wear resistance, folding resistance and torsion resistance of glass fiber are poor. So the glass fiber must advance after dipping (impregnate), the glass fibre coated in polymer materials, avoid the occurrence of internal friction between glass fiber and glass fiber winding, avoid surface adsorption of water accelerate the expansion of the micro cracks, protected from corrosion. Thermosetting resins are low viscosity liquid before polymerization, so impregnating glass fibers is not difficult, but thermoplastics are also high viscosity in the hot melt state, so it is difficult to impregnate glass fibers.
Some domestic enterprises have explored the direct use of no preimpregnated glass fiber wire (no roving) wound on the thermoplastic core tube and then cover the outer thermoplastic plastic manufacturing reinforced thermoplastic pipe RTP (similar to the manufacturing wire winding reinforced RTP process). Or the glass fiber wire without pre-impregnation and polyethylene co-extruded into reinforcement tape and then wound the tube (similar to the process of making arylon fiber tape winding reinforcement RTP), resulting in low performance and unstable RTP. The analysis reason is that the glass fiber without good preimpregnation in the process of manufacturing and application because of friction or twists and turns and fracture. The PRODUCTION OF GLASS FIBER is surface treated, usually coated with a wetting agent to make the original silk smooth, eliminate static electricity, reduce moisture erosion, and through the coupling agent to make glass fiber and synthetic resin interface can be bonded. However, this surface treatment is not a substitute for pre-impregnation.
